What Does The Future Hold For Enyeama?

The face of Vincent Enyeama picking up balls from his net three times in Enyimba’s 45 minutes horror show in Ismaili, Egypt, in 2003, was pathetic. He knew better than to complete the match and gave way for his deputy,  Dele Aiyenugba, in the second half.

Fast forward to June 12, 2012 and Enyeama was in a different world. Save after save, he made to deny Lionel Messi and Argentina from adding to a Gabriel Heinze headed goal. The football world took notice but it was back to Hapoel Tel Aviv he went. All talks of an Arsenal move faded in thin air. But he had more in store and he thought moving to Lille would give him that big break. After a whole season on the bench and even having to suffer the humilation of going back on loan to Israel, Enyeama is on top of his game, again.

So far this season he has eight consecutive clean sheets, with 11 in total from 13 Ligue 1 games for Lille. They have only been breached on four occasions and have climbed to second on the table, four points behind PSG. Some of Enyeama’s saves have provided photographers with images that could be in line for action shot of the year.

Enyeama conceded a referee and linesman phantom goal in Addis Ababa, last month but that has been only a blip. Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi is already dreaming of winning the World Cup and Enyeama, his captain is key to that confidence boost
