My regrets over my brother’s death —Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that his main regret over the death of his younger brother, Chief Meni Innocent Jonathan, is that he has lost a dependable viceroy who was manning the home front.

The president, who stated this at the funeral church service at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Otuoke in honour of his late brother, said although every living soul would die, what worried him about his brother's demise was the circumstances which he noted did not give the family the opportunity to provide good Medicare for him.

He said what he observed the last time he visited home was that his brother was looking frail and he asked him to follow him to Abuja to get medical attention.

According to the President, the deceased drove himself to Yenagoa where they all boarded a chopper and departed for Port Harcourt en route Abuja where he was admitted at the Aso Rock Clinic.

The president also revealed that his personal physician was in charge of the medical team whose diagnosis revealed that his brother had inflamed heart. He said the medical team was only trying to stabilize him so that he could be taken abroad for treatment when he finally died of cardiac arrest.

"It was  a bad day for me because his death coincided with my birthday", he said, adding that he was also scheduled to receive  five diplomats, as well as travel to Pakistan for the G-8 meeting the same day.
