Help choose best deputy for me, Yero begs Sambo

As the battle for a new deputy governor intensifies in Kaduna State, Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero yesterday solicited for the support of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo and Kaduna Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in choosing the best person to be his deputy..

Yero sought for their support at the PDP Caucus meeting chaired by Vice President Sambo.

The meeting, which was held at Hassan Usman Katsina House, was attended by Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, PDP National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, and the Minister of Environment, Hajia Hadiza Mailafia.

Also at the meeting were Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Usman Ganagara, Senator Ahmed Aruwa, Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Isaiah Balat, Alhaji Suleiman Uthman Hunkuyi, State PDP Chairman, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, two former PDP State chairmen; Yaro Audi Makama and Yau Usman  as well as many local government chairmen among others.

Yero, who was sworn in last Sunday as governor of Kaduna State following the death of Mr Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, told the PDP Caucus that he needed their support in choosing a deputy governor that would support and cooperate with him in moving the state forward.

"Because of the death of our governor Yakowa, I was sworn in as the governor in line with the country's constitution. The seat of the deputy governor has become vacant. I pray to have somebody that will work with me to lift the state forward. I want your support and cooperation in this regard. Very soon, we will fill the vacancy and I'm looking for your support in this regard," Yero said.

Governor Yero, while assuring to work with the caucus, also reiterated his pledge to continue with all the good works started by the late governor and ensure full implementation of the 2013 budget presented by late Yakowa to state assembly before his death.

Earlier in his address, State PDP Chairman Ambassador Bajoga said the meeting was summoned at the instance of Governor Yero and assured the governor of party loyalty.

"We believe that the bonds of mutual co-operation which existed under the leadership of our late leader will continue to flourish for the benefit of our party in particular and the good people of Kaduna State in general," he added.

In his address, PDP National Organising Secretary urged stakeholders to work together with the new governor for him to succeed in piloting the affairs of the state.

Vice President Sambo called on Yero to rally round all stakeholders for the consolidation of the successes recorded by late Yakowa.

He assured the governor of the support of the Federal Government for rapid transformation of the state.

"All hands must be on deck to mobilise and work for the development of the state. Nothing short of that will appease the spirit of our departed brother," he said.
