Bad Temperament: Angry Brother Stabs Sister To Death

Laxmi Sharma, a grade 11 student of Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya went in the night to meet her 22-year-old boyfriend Ankit, who stays with his uncle Dilip Gupta in a neighbouring colony, Vinod Nagar against her family's wishes and was consequently stabbed to death by her brother who is now at large.
Gupta returned home and was unhappy about Laxmi's presence in his house, so he called her parents saying it was"inappropriate" for her to meet his nephew at that time.
Police sources say, her father went to Ankit's house immediately to take his daughter back home in East Delhi's Mandawali colony.
A police official said: "Late in the night, Laxmi's grandparents, aunt and uncle sat down to counsel the young girl. But her 18-year-old brother Sujit would have none of it. He lost his temper and in a fit of rage stabbed his sister in the stomach with a kitchen knife in front of the other family members."
The girl was rushed to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital but died due to excessive blood loss.
The hospital authorities informed the police, who searched the house, only to find the girl's brother missing. "He is on the run but we expect to nab him soon," the official said.
Ankit, who works as a supervisor for a private contractor; a milk supplier, has reportedly told the police that he and Laxmi had met about four months ago and they met frequently in parks and other areas and planned to marry. Laxmi still had to wait one more year to be old enough for marriage according to Indian laws.
"He told us that though both families were not happy with the relationship, the two never intended to elope and were trying to convince their respective families," the official said.
"Investigations revealed that the accused is very temperamental and had turned violent over petty issues even in the past," he added.
