The unfortunate incident occured when they were digging up gold at one of the mining sites few yards away from Dogon Daji village.
According to a witness, Shafi’u Abdullahi, “we were inside the mosque when we heard about the incident. We rushed to the site and found out that the underground tunnel had collapsed and buried people alive.

“We used hoes, shovels and objects to rey to rescue the trapped miners but we were able to rescue only one who was rushed to the hospital in Maru local government.”
Reportedly, the area has about five illegal mining sites.
Police Public Relations Officer, Hassan Usman Talba confirmed the incident, saying the law banning illegal mining is in force, regretting that it is difficult to locate illegal mining sites.
In his own Reaction, the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Birnin Magaji said, “We know that defiant people are engaged in illegal mining activities. We’ ve started arresting and prosecuting them. The situation will soon be arrested.”
