Bodies of Dana plane crash victims to be released


The Lagos State Government, today, announced that it will begin releasing corpses of the Dana plane crash from tomorrow Thursday 9 August 2012.
At a joint press conference with officials of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, the government said duly identified bodies will be released to a next-of-kin or an authorised relative.
The government said the schedule of release is available at LASUTH, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria and all families are requested to contact the Funeral Director’s office on 01-8542254 at least 24hours before they come to claim the bodies.
The Dana plane crash occurred on 3 June 2012 at Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, killing over 150 people.
The authorities only recovered 149 bodies with 52 bodies identifiable and 97 of them burnt beyond recognition.
DNA tests have been concluded and the bodies identified.
Meanwhile, Dana Air said it remains committed to assisting the families in every way possible.
“The airline’s Crisis Management Centres (CMCs) in Lagos and Abuja, manned by trained personnel, are still open, and the toll-free lines connected to the centre remain active,” said Tony Usidamen, Dana spokesperson.
