APC weighs change of name; parties deny such plans

Strong indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress, may change its name to avoid losing it to the rival African People’s Congress.
The two political associations awaiting the nod of the Independent National Electoral Commission to be recognized as political parties are laying claim to the APC acronym.
Dailypost gathered that the mega opposition party may add the alphabet “N” (meaning Nigeria). Thus, it may become All Nigerian Progressives Congress, ANPC.
But in his reaction, National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, Rotimi Fashakin, said the name change was a mere speculation.
He said, “Whatever anyone tells you about our merger now is speculative and untrue. We have said it over and again that the acronym APC is our intellectual property, whatever the PDP and its agents in the system are doing to frustrate our registration will not succeed.”
On his part, National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Lai Mohammed, said the All Progressive Congress would not change its name.Strong indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress, may change its name to avoid losing it to the rival African People’s Congress.
