Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger take sides with Clattenburg in race row

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, have both condemned Chelsea’s behaviour over the Mark Clattenburg race row. The FA and the Metropolitan Police are currently investigating allegations that the referee, used ‘inappropriate language’ on Blues midfielder, John Mikel Obi.

” I don’t believe Mark Clattenburg would make any comment like that,’ Ferguson said. “I think it’s unthinkable. It’s unthinkable in the modern climate. I just don’t believe it.

“There’s no way a referee would stoop that low. I’m convinced of that.

“If you look at the modern game compared to 25 years ago it’s completely changed. I know the banter between players and referees 25 years ago is completely different.

“This is where I stand on this issue with Mark Clattenburg. I just don’t believe it.”

Wenger is also of the opinion that the Stamford Bridge club, did not handle the case properly.

“I didn’t follow the whole (Chelsea) story completely (but) my opinion is just when I didn’t behave well I have an explanation with the referee at the end of the game or another day, rather than going public with little proof. I’m not in favour of making these things public,” he said.

Maiduguri: Boko Haram Suspects Kill Retired General Shuwa

The Joint Task Force (JTF), in Maiduguri, today announced the death of Retired General Muhammadu Shuwa at the hands of suspects thought to be Boko Haram.
In a press statement by its spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, JTF said the general was shot in his house by four men who were initially thought to have been his guest for the Juma,at prayers.  They entered the house and opened fire on the General and his visitors.
“One of the guests died on the spot while the general died on the way to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital,” the statement said.

JTF said its troops in the area immediately cordoned off the area and that a search for the assailants was underway.

One Person Dies As Fire Gut Another Building On Breadfruit Street

Barely five days after fire razed a 5-storey building; fire has gutted another three-storey building at Breadfruit Street on Lagos Island, Lagos killing one person.

Reports say the fire started around 2.00 pm at 46 Breadfruit Street on Friday, destroying the three-storey building housing nine flats and stores in the process.

Scores of people were injured trying to escape. One of the occupants of the building was however unlucky and was burnt to death in the inferno. The victim was taken to the mortuary by the emergency team. Properties worth millions of Naira were also destroyed.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu who was at the scene said that the relevant emergency teams were able to rescue some of the occupants.

According to him, the State Fire Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force were on ground for the operation.

Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that one person died in the inferno, saying that the fire was caused by electrical surge which triggered sudden explosion.

“The incident occurred at about 1:56 p.m. and our officials were on ground to salvage the situation. The fire was completely put off while the occupants were immediately evacuated. Unfortunately, one dead body was recovered from the inferno. Perhaps, he was trapped in the fire and could not escape,” he said.

While decrying the recurrence of the fire disaster which was recorded on the same street in less than a week, the LASEMA boss said proper investigation would be carried out to ascertain the cause in order to avert future occurrences.

JTF kills 2 female kidnappers, 12 others in gun duel in Rivers State

14 suspected members of a notorious criminal gang, including two ladies, were massacred by security operatives in Rivers State after a fire exchange in the early hours of Friday.

The Joint Military Force (JTF) also invaded their camp in Kanni in Ogoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The gang met their waterloo at 2:50a.m, following investigation into the recent kidnapping of one Biram Karakus, a Turkish and staff of Rivigo Construction Company, in Port Harcourt. It was gathered that a combined team of security operatives from the State Police Command and Anti-kidnap Unit of the military, raided the hideout of the hooligans, upon information.

It was learnt that the notorious kidnappers, opened fire at the security operatives on sighting them, a development that led to the fire exchange. Six of the suspected kidnappers were shot dead immediately, while eight others, who were among 10 that sustained bullet wounds, passed out as they were being rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulam, a Deputy Commisioner of Police, who confirmed the incident, said the gang leader, popularly known as “Bishop Nelly”, was among those killed.

According to Ugwuegbulam the bandits were responsible for kidnapping, armed robbery, killing of policemen and civilians in Rivers State in recent times.
The Command’s spokesman disclosed that six AK 47 rifles, 444 rounds of live ammunition, 17 magazines and charms were recovered from them.

Other items recovered were two bags used in delivering ransom and N98,900, being part of the ransom of N20 million they received recently.

34-year-old Man Rapes Neighbour’s 10-year-old Daughter

A 34-year old man, Kayode Oladosu has been charged before an Ejigbo Magistrate's court, Lagos for allegedly having carnal knowledge of his neighbour's 10-year old daughter.
Oladosu, from Ibadan, Oyo State, reportedly lured the little girl into his room at Kudeyibu Estate, Isheri-Osun, Lagos.
The girl went home to meet her parents with blood stained dress. Her parents reported the matter to the police at Isheri-Oshun Division and Oladosu was arrested and charged to court.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim said that she was sent to buy some items in a provision store in their area when Oladosu lured her to his room.
Oladosu told newsmen at the court that he was in a financial mess and could not get money to give to women in order to have s*x with them because he had no steady job. He said he didn't mean to injure the girl but only wanted to satisfy his s*xual desire.
"I did not intend to injure her, I just pushed my p*nis a little bit to release," he explained.
Oladosu pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
He was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum by the trial magistrate, Mrs. E.E. Kubenje, holding brief for Mrs. M. B. Folami who is on leave, and was ordered to be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Apapa pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 14 November, 2012.

They wanted to force me to cut my hair – Man Who Killed His Grandparents

The story was recently reported of a young man, Adekunle Musiliu Tajudeen, who allegedly macheted his grandmother; Madam Olalonpe Ganiyu and her brother, Pa Busari Ogundeji, to death at N4/204, Ile-Aloko, Yemetu, Adeoyo, Ibadan.

Adekunle, it was gathered, had mental challenges and in a reaction that gave a clue to his mental state, the 33-year-old, said he killed his grandmother over her insistence on him to cut his hair which he insist was the same as cutting himself!

According to Adekuinle’s testimony, given to Tribune, “Mama told me to go and barb my hair and I said no, that I was not ready to do so. She continued pressurising me to still go ahead. I told her that I was not ready to barb it because I wanted to grow it to a dreadlock level and considered the hair as myself which I’m not ready to cut. I told her that ‘that hair is me that you want me to cut’ but she never listened to me. So, when the pressure was too much for me to bear, I went for one of the cutlasses that we used to peel yam and cut firewood in the house.

“I used the cutlass on her and when I was done, grandpa, her brother,(Busari Ogundeji), came into the house and threatened me that if he collected that cutlass in my hands I should consider myself dead. At that point, I knew that if I gave him the cutlass or he collected it, I would die, then, I had to attack him.”
