learning from my experience

Exactly one year ago, I resigned from my role as the Editor of a foremost online newspaper to become a freelance investigative journalist. Many felt it was a wrong move. A then colleague said I would “die of hunger”.

A note on why you should never listen to negative opinions about your dreams.

Resigning was a decision that came after many months of sleepless nights. It was a well-paid job, the ‘Editor’ is what many in journalism aspire to become, my boss wasn’t tired of me yet and, to worsen matters, I didn’t have another job waiting for me. Freelance! One friend said I was “mad”, another said I was “unstable”.

A colleague at the time told another: “If anyone leaves the job of Editor to become a freelance investigative journalist, he will die of hunger. Investigative journalists? They used to be respected when they were scarce; these days, there are so many of them.”

Of course, I dismissed that scathing comment with a wave of the hand. Someone who first set eyes on me in 2018 couldn’t be predicting the next phase of a battle-laden journey that had started decades back — from struggling with sciences in secondary school, to leaving a university of agriculture to go study Animal Science at the University of Ibadan where I could benefit from the Arts community, to having no life in uni because I was combining campus journalism with Agriculture, and working my socks off seven days every week since 2004 (no exaggerations).

There were times when I wondered if I could indeed regret that resignation, but I was sure the investigations I’d been eyeing since 2017 were worth pursuing. I was sure, too, that even though I loved editing, it was on the field that sky-high fulfillment awaited me. I knew the field was where I would be most useful to myself and my country.

One year later, I still do not have money but I am far from hungry too. Notably, journalism has never been this fulfilling. I first stepped into the Rutam House newsroom of TheGuardian in 2005, which means I’ve been in and around journalism for 15 years, yet I’ll pick the fulfillment of the last year over any of the other 14 years.

Some group recently described me on Twitter as “one of Nigeria's unknown but quietly emerging writing talents” and someone leapt to my ‘defence’ with a do-your-research-well reply. Others still describe me as a “young reporter” or “fast-rising investigative journalist”. Unlike my recent ‘defender’, I find these descriptions truly complimentary. That many think I’ve only just burst onto the scene is testament to the productivity of the last 12 months.

I almost didn’t write this because I felt it was probably too early to. The journey ahead is quite long if God preserves me, so there’s quite a lot of work to be done. I haven’t arrived yet. But I continue to push myself hard every day, then harder the next! Just that I didn’t want to pass up the first opportunity to encourage someone: don’t let your fears or any negative talker prevent you from taking that step you’ve always wanted to.

Get up and take the plunge! Take up that new job, launch that business idea, relocate to that city, walk up to that lady you’re dying for, get out of that unholy alliance. Better to do it and fail than not do it at all — because if you did it and you failed, you at least would never spend the rest of your life regretting and wondering “what if?” That alone is no victory to be underestimated.

HOW TO HEAL OUR GENERATION

This is how to heal a generation...
The greatest form of power looks like weakness.
All humans, despite religion or race, are ONE - our common humanity bounds us together.

The memory of #GeorgeFloyd is blessed.

"MY WIFE DEY HOUSE, GO MEET AM".

"MY WIFE DEY HOUSE, GO MEET AM".

Dear husbands,
It's rather unfortunate that we have become so careless with Artisans that we trust them so easily as much as giving them unsupervised access to our homes with the common statement:
'No worry, you go meet my wife for house... if you don finish the work, she go pay you'.

We protect our homes from every other person except Artisans. We allow Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers, Mechanics, Technicians, Errand Boys, Gardeners, Male Cleaners, House Boys, Gatemen and the likes, to have unhindered access to our homes with only our wives and daughters with 100% confidence that nothing can happen. Are they robots from another planet? Even if you trust your wife, do you also trust these strange men by leaving them all alone at home with your wife? If your male relatives are suspects, is it total strangers that are now reliable?

Do not push your wife to a situation where she might get molested or raped. It is not even your wife or daughters that should be attending to Artisans in the first place, you should be there physically until they are done with their work. Infact if the nature of the work requires the Artisans entering your bathroom or bedroom, make sure your wife and daughters remove their undies and other feminine stuffs from sight, before the Artisan is given access to such places. During the time of the Companions when there was so much piety and fear of God, such calamity still happened.
So, please be careful and avoid unintentional exposure of your loved ones before its too late.

Be security-conscious ALWAYS!

Do you know this truth about your water dispenser?

Did You Know

Many of us  have water dispensers, but don't know what this tiny knob behind does.
Each time you're replacing the water, you need to open this knob and drain it completely so you have 100% fresh water.

If you've never done this, you've been mixing clean water with very dirty water.

Is this true?

CALM DOWN. IT'S NOT BY WHO FIRST STARTED.

CALM DOWN. IT'S NOT BY WHO FIRST STARTED.

If TECNO could ping before NOKIA… Who told you that all your mates who started work before you would make it before you?

If CIVIL DEFENCE could carry gun before ROAD SAFETY… Who told you it’s by how far? It’s by how well.

If GARRI could sell more than INDOMIE after all the adverts… Who told you that you must dress indecently to attract men?

If tomatoes can be more expensive today than apple... who says you are less important than your friends who schooled abroad because you schooled in Nigeria?

If they could tie a COW with just a rope despite its size, but must use a strong chain to hold a dog… Who is that  person that says you are worse than nothing?

If COLONEL HARLAND SANDER Would be the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KCF), When his chicken was rejected 109 times.
If he would be celebrated as the world second successful person, after his life was full of failure from childhood to the age of 65. Who told you that u can't succeed in life because you are facing challenges.

If CHRISTIANO RONALDO would be the first person to reach 100 goals in UEFA when uefa is 31 years older than him. Who told you that you can't be the best because others have gone ahead of you?

If SARAH would be the mother of many nations after she was still barren at the age of 90, when her own maid had a 15 years old son, who told u ur time is past?

Don’t worry too much about your current situation,
just believe in GOD and keep praying, trusting and remain FAITHFUL

HE PUSHED ME AWAY...

HE PUSHED ME AWAY......
=========================

"Many years ago, I went to the BANK on Wednesday morning as I was about entering the hall, a man ran ahead of me and pushed me away so he could quickly join the long queue before I will get to the queue.
I did not say anything, he thought I will queue up behind him but I was actually not there to withdraw, I went to deposit.

So I walked to the deposit teller and I was the only one there. No single person on the queue.
When I finished depositing, I was about leaving the hall, when this man came from the queue and apologized to me for pushing me away from the line. With "sorry smile on his face" he said: I am very sorry for pushing you away, I thought you were coming to the queue to withdraw..............

I smiled and told him not to bother that it's not a big deal. Friends believe me I learned a big lesson from that incident.

Who are you 'pushing' away and trying to outrun in the race of destiny, relationship, business, ministry, career, marriage, political position or appointment, etc?
How many People have you pushed aside, pushed away or pushed down in this platform or this life?

Are you among those that destroy people through pushing?

By slandering them, hindering their progress, blocking their promotion, lying, backstabbing, condemning them before their helpers, backbiting, discriminating, and spoiling their good names either through lies or rumor, all in a bid to 'get there' before them.

I challenge you today to take it easy because you might not be going to the same destination.

Unknown to you, the path may look alike but your destinations are different.
It might surprise you later that, with all the pushing away you are doing, or planning to do, they may still leave you on the 'queue' of destiny and go ahead of you.

Finally;
Has anyone ever pushed you away, aside, or down in your school, office, ministry, business, marriage, political platform, social media or in a religious societies?

Are they trying to push you away or have they pushed you away already so that they can get ahead of you?

Don't worry, God will use your case to prove to them that, "it is not of him who runs, but of the Lord that shows mercy. He will show you mercy and give you an overtaking speed and those who are pushing you here and there will later come and tell you they are sorry.

Beloved Brethren, Please push nobody because you might not be heading to the same destination. Borrow wisdom from a friend and Take life easy." -Unknown

Enjoy your weekend.

MY CHAT WITH BISHOP OYEDEPO BEFORE WE ACQUIRED OUR PRIVATE JETS- Pst E. A. Adeboye

MY CHAT WITH BISHOP OYEDEPO BEFORE WE ACQUIRED OUR PRIVATE JETS- Pst E. A. Adeboye

I Remember one day the Bishop visited me in Mushin where I was living then, you know I was living in one boys quarter in Mushin, and when he was leaving I had to really cry to God for his Journey, because the Volkswagen that brought him didn't look like one that would get to Ibadan, and he was going to Kaduna.

Only Yesterday, My Son and I were talking on the phone about the difficulty of movement by road, due to traffic. And We said the situation now required that at least we have an helicopter that can move us around, to and from wherever we want to go easily. So I said, "it's something worth praying about." My Son said "Daddy it's not praying about, IT'S ACTION!"

From the the days of crying for a Volkswagen to work properly to the days of Chatting about Private Jets, it was a journey and process, do not despise the days of your little beginning
