T.B. JOSHUA: MURDER IN THE CHURCH (PART 1)

A few weeks ago I tweeted that I would write an essay about the bombing of a building at Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua’s Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).
Though I have been writing essays and contributing to the public discourse for over 27 years, I have never received the number of threats from known and unknown sources as I did after that tweet.
Yet I am not deterred. As a matter of fact such threats always strenghen my resolve to stand firm, do the right thing and dig even deeper.
I am a servant of truth and the voice of the voiceless: I cannot be intimidated and I will not be silenced.
Part of my calling is to speak truth to power, to stand up for the oppressed and to speak up for the victims of barbarity, persecution, wickedness and injustice and I will not shy away from doing so on this occassion.
Prophet TB Joshua started his ministry 30 years ago in 1987 when he founded his Church. He is a strong and credible voice in the Body of Christ in Nigeria.
He is a respected and much-loved Christian leader who is doing great works and wonders for the Kingdom of God both in and outside of our country. He is reverred in many nations in the world, including numerous countries in South America, South East Asia, Africa, Europe, the far East, Israel, Lebanon, India and the United States of America where he is a regular visitor that is welcomed and received with much love and enthuisiasm.

Senator Smart Adeyemi is my political wife... I will defeat him 1,000 times - Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has described former Senator Smart Adeyemi who he defeated in the 2015 senatorial election in Kogi state, as his political wife who he will defeat in any election 1000 times.

Speaking in a Channels TV interview, Melaye said the audio tape being circulated by Sahara Reporters, is a "Satanic Collabo" between Sahara Reporters, Smart Adeyemi and others.

He asked God almighty to forgive Adeyemi for the lies he has told against him. Both men were interviewed simultaneously yesterday.
"I ask that the almighty God who is the supreme controller of the universe forgive Smart Adeyemi for all the lies he has told this night. He should be aware that these lies have been recorded and will be used against him especially in the court of law. I want to say that that tape is a product of a satanic collabo between Smart Adeyemi, Sahara Reporters and others. I want to assure you that they are wasting their time. If they have any authenticity in the lies they are projecting, they should approach the police approach relevant security agencies to prosecute me. Senator Smart is a desperate person. The same reason why he left PDP for APC thinking he is going to be appointed Minister. He did not get that Ministerial appointment and that is why he left PDP. He is my political wife any day and I challenge him to an election 1000 times, I will defeat him. He has no base in Kogi state. He has no personal structure or building in the length and breath of Kogi state apart from the three bungalow room he built for his mother. I have investments in Kogi state. None of his investments is in Kogi state. The people saw through him that he has always lied and deceived them"he said

Govt can hire, fire any chaplain – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday threw its weight behind the Lagos State government’s decision to sack its Chaplain, Ven. Femi Taiwo.
The government has the power to hire and fire any chaplain appointed to manage its chapel, Lagos chapter CAN Chairman Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, told reporters.
He addressed a news conference to clarify the position of the body on the controversy which trailed the sack of the clergyman.
Bamgbola decried the twisting of the events that led to the decision to separate Ven. Taiwo as chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, the state government’s Christian worship centre.
There were reports that the clergyman was relieved of his duties because of an alleged disrespect for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s wife, Bolanle.
But CAN said its investigation did not suggest what was being peddled.
Bamgbola cleared the governor’s wife of any wrongdoing, saying reports linking her to the matter were blown out of proportion.
He said the church was built by the Lagos State government for itself and for the public.
The CAN chairman said it was the state government that created the anointing service and instituted a Governing Council to run the affairs of the church and report to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“The Governing Council has the constitutional responsibility to recruit and terminate the appointment of officers to run the chapel. Two officers run the affairs of the chapel – the presiding chaplain and the chaplain. They are officers of the government, they are strictly employee of the state government and subject to terms and conditions of the government,” he explained

Why I didn’t contest APC primary against Buhari – Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said that he didn’t contest in the 2014 presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, which produced Muhammadu Buhari as the party’s flag bearer.
Mr. Saraki, in a
statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he decided to support Mr. Buhari when the latter indicated interest to run for president.
Mr. Saraki was responding to a report said to have been published in Africa Confidential, a specialist publication on Africa, which claimed that the Senate President had contested against Mr. Buhari.
The report, an analysis of how succession politics within the ruling party was allegedly frustrating President Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, is said to have also claimed that the Senate president has retained the services of a London-based communications consultant, Aequitas, to help him work on his public image.
All the claims contained in the publication are not correct, Mr. Saraki said in the statement.
“Dr. Saraki publicly announced in a statement in Ilorin on October 12, 2014 that he would not contest against Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) who was then an aspirant because ‘some of us need to make sacrifice and be part of the solution rather than part of the problem of the party’” the statement said.
“He then declared that he would support the candidacy of the retired General. Dr. Saraki was one of the people who worked tirelessly to ensure General Buhari won the APC ticket and the general election.
“Again, contrary to the claim in your article, Dr. Saraki does not retain the services of Aequitas. He formerly engaged Aequitas for strategic policy services while he was Governor of Kwara State and Chair of the Nigeria Governors Forum, and at the initial stage of his period as Senate President. He no longer retains the services of Aequitas effective from January 1, 2017.

“It is with great sadness that the BBC can confirm the death of BBC Afghan driver Mohammed Nazir following the vehicle bomb in Kabul earlier today, as he was driving journalist colleagues to the office,” Francesca Unsworth, the BBC World Service Director, said in a statement.
“Four BBC journalists were also injured and were treated in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening,” Unsworth said.
“Mohammed Nazir worked as a driver for the BBC Afghan service for more than four years and was a popular colleague.
“He was in his late thirties and he leaves a young family,” she added.
“This is a devastating loss to the BBC and to Mohammed Nazir’s friends and family. We are doing all we can to support them and the rest of the team in Kabul.”
A tanker truck bombing in central Kabul killed at least 64 civilians on Wednesday, the Afghan Interior Ministry said, as officials fear the death toll could rise further.
The ministry said three hundred and twenty others were wounded and 50 vehicles destroyed.Wahidullah Majroh, a spokesman for the Public Health Ministry, said however that 80 people were dead and 350 others wounded.
Little is left of the vehicle, either a water or human waste taker, that was used for the bombing, said Najib Danish, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry.
Fifty vehicles were also destroyed in the blast in the Afghan capital’s central Zanbaq Square, according to the ministry.
Zanbaq Square is near many government buildings and foreign embassies, including the presidential palace, the chief executive office, the German embassy and the Indian embassy, among others.
The German Embassy was severely damaged in the blast, as pictures from the location show.

The President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sultan Saad Abubakar, has asked Muslims in Nigeria to look out for the new moon from Friday, May 26.During Ramadan, Muslims have to abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to sunset.

Osinbajo, governors, accuse Jonathan of discriminating against 19 states in sharing of ecological funds

The administration of former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, discriminated in the sharing of ecological funds to states, a new report has shown.
An interim report submitted by the National Executive Council’s Ad-hoc committee on management of ecological fund revealed that 19 states, including Abuja, are yet to benefit from the one percent share of the Ecological Fund as stipulated by law.
NEC, an official economic platform for dialogue among the 36 state governors, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other co-opted members, is chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
The interim report, submitted by an 11-man Committee headed by Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State, gave details of how the entire Ecological Fund was utilized during Mr. Jonathan’s eta.
The Committee informed Council of the revised sharing formula of the Ecological Funds as modified, with the Federal Government getting one percent; States, 0.72 percent; and Local Government Areas, 0.60 percent.

Why some JAMB candidates won’t get their results — Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Thursday vowed not to release results of candidates identified in footages of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) to have indulged in unwholesome practices during the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, who spoke as guest on a Channels Television current affairs programme, Sunrise Daily, said his agency had been busy in the past days reviewing recorded footages of the examination across the country, and that a number of candidates had been marked out for sanction.
Mr. Oloyede, a professor of Islamic Studies, was responding to a question by one of the anchors of the programme on why some candidates were yet to receive their results despite promises by JAMB to release outcomes within 24 hours.
The registrar said, “Those who have not received (their results) are qualified not to receive for now. In all cases where there were no problems, we released results of the examination within 24 hours.
“But those who have not (received their results), they may not be culpable but we are investigating. Where we have reason to doubt anything or where we have report of anything that is not acceptable to us, we have withheld the results.
“And we will keep on releasing them as we clear them. For instance, this morning, we released another 15,000 results. But among those who sat in that centre, we have reasons, concrete evidence to say about 300 of them, their results will not be released because we know they were not in the hall where the examination took place.
“We are comparing those who sat for the examination, how long they sat in the hall, and how some of them took excuses that they were going to the toilet only to go to what they called VIP…

Buhari’s health has improved significantly – Embassy Source

President Muhammadu Buhari’s health has improved significantly, although only his physicians can determine when he will return to Nigeria and to work.
“Oh yes; we thank God,” a source in the Nigeria High Commission in London, United Kingdom, told this newspaper when asked if the president’s health had improved substantially.
“He is doing very good; he is ok but his doctors will determine (when he will return).”
The official, who sees Mr. Buhari regularly, asked not to be named because he had no permission to discuss the president’s condition with journalists.
Mr. Buhari left the country for London on May 7 to continue with his medical treatment.
He had returned to Nigeria on March 10 after spending 51 days in the British capital during attending to his health.
Upon his return, the president said he “couldn’t recall being so sick since he was a young man, including in the military with its ups and downs.”
He also said he could not recall ever having blood transfusion before.
The president also hinted that he would return to the UK for further treatment.
“I’m feeling much better now. There may, however, be need for further follow up within some weeks,” Mr. Buhari had said while addressing the country.
However, as soon as he returned to the UK about two weeks ago, there were rumours that he had passed on.
An SMS announcing his death soon went viral. The text read, “Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been confirmed dead in London where he was receiving medical attention…. The Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom told reporters plans are underway to transport the body of the late President to Abuja where final burial funeral rites will be held…Vice Pres
ident Yemi Osinbajo is expected to be sworn in office as the substantive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Government is yet to issue an official statement on the President’s demise. He was 74 years old.”
Our source expressed sadness that some Nigerians could wish the president dead, saying “(it is) sad that any human being will wish another dead.”
He continued, “It’s sad but God is all seeing and will always suffice and to Him we submit all our affairs. They have failed and will continue to fail.”
On the calls for Mr. Buhari’s resignation on the ground of poor health , the source said, “Well that’s their problem because it is God that gives power and takes it when He so wishes and not anybody else.”
